The content on this page
The paediatric specialty includes the examination and treatment of children’s asthma and allergies, diabetes, heart defects, problems with growth and development, and the treatment of children’s kidney diseases, infectious diseases, intestinal diseases, rheumatic diseases, as well as caring for newborn babies. The outpatient clinic for children functions based on booked appointments, and child patients come to the clinic with referrals from a doctor.
The outpatient clinic for children and adolescents operates as a referral outpatient clinic based on booked appointments. Referrals can be made by health care centre doctors, child health clinic doctors and private doctors. The queue of appointment booking referrals is determined by the diagnosis, the examinations planned by a doctor at the outpatient clinic, and an assessment on the urgency.
Examinations and treatment on the outpatient clinic for children and adolescents are carried out in cooperation between various experts in the best interests of children. The principle of paediatrics is being family-oriented, i.e. in addition to the child, the whole family is taken into account in the care.
The team includes paediatricians as well as specialists, nurses, a rehabilitation counsellor for children, a diabetes nurse for children, an asthma nurse for children, a special physiotherapist and, if necessary, a psychologist, dietician, speech therapist, occupational therapist and social worker.
There is a day hospital in connection with the outpatient clinic for children and adolescents. The day hospital carries out outpatient examinations and treatments for children. These include food exposures and medicine infusions.
