Psychiatric ward 15
The psychiatric ward 15 for adults treats adults with life crises, mental health problems and/or mental illnesses. Care on a ward is suitable for treatment of severe mental health disorders when outpatient treatment is not enough. The individual treatment is based on the patient’s needs and the focus is on outpatient care. The ward provides help and support to not only patients but also the persons close to them.
The ward is divided into units 15/A, 15/B and 15/C, which together have 32 psychiatric inpatient beds and 4 inpatient beds for substance abuse patients.
- 15/A focuses on psychiatric rehabilitation and learning life management. The treatment may concern symptoms of a psychotic illness and a decreased functional capacity because of an illness.
- 15/B is a psychiatric admission ward. The ward focuses on the assessment of the need of care in an acute phase of an illness and on examination, treatment as well as assessing the need of rehabilitation.
- 15/C is a psychiatric affective disorder ward, as well as a ward for detoxification from intoxicant and drug abuse. The ward focuses on treating, assessing and examining affective disorders and problems with substance abuse and on identifying rehabilitation needs. The ward provides detoxification as well as rehabilitation for substance abusers, for which a doctor specialized in addiction medicine is responsible.
The goal is always to agree on the treatment together with the patient and the persons close to them, with respect to the patient’s right to self-determination and independence. Some patients, however, need treatment for their illness against their will. The treatment is always planned individually.
The treatment periods are short crisis treatment periods, observation periods and examination periods. After treatment on ward, the treatment continues at an outpatient care unit in a way that has been agreed on together with the patient.
The psychiatric ward 15 produces psychiatric inpatient care for the Wellbeing services county of Central Ostrobothnia. The ward is supported by a psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse on duty 24/7.
