The content on this page
The women’s clinic consists of the following units:
- The labour unit
- Ward 3
- The maternity outpatient clinic
- The gynaecological outpatient clinic
- The Seri support centre for victims of sexual assault
The women’s clinic provides high-quality and up-to-date care for women at every stage of their life. Patient care is carried out by a multidisciplinary team, and we also work together with the patients’ close relatives.
Most gynaecological patients are surgical patients. The most common operations include hysterectomy using various techniques, prolapse repairs, surgery to correct urinary incontinence, and ovarian surgery. Some operations are carried out as day surgery without a stay on a ward. Around half of the patients are discharged directly from the surgical ward / the recovery room either on the day of the surgery or on the following morning.
Outpatient clinics
The maternity outpatient clinic is part of the women’s clinic and is open on weekdays as both an appointment-based and as an emergency outpatient clinic. Foetal anatomy scans and other ultrasound examinations related to pregnancy are carried out at the maternity clinic. Pregnant women who need specialized medical care are referred to the clinic for examinations and follow-ups. The clinic also treats patients who are afraid of giving birth.
The maternity clinic organizes childbirth classes for women who are going to give birth for the first time and for support persons who are going to be present at childbirth. A breastfeeding clinic works in cooperation with the labour ward.
A referral to the maternity outpatient clinic may be written by a public health nurse or a doctor.
The gynaecological outpatient clinic treats conditions such as menstrual bleeding disorders, gynaecological causes of abdominal pain, prolapse, and urinary incontinence, and also provides care related to family planning. Terminations of pregnancy are also carried out at the outpatient clinic. If you are considering terminating a pregnancy, please contact the gynaecological outpatient clinic.
The gynaecological outpatient clinic is open on weekdays as both a referral-based and as an emergency outpatient clinic. Gynaecological patients requiring specialized medical care are referred to the gynaecological outpatient clinic by health centre doctors and private doctors.
The outpatient clinic houses a gynaecological clinic as well as an outpatient clinic for specialized medical care and procedures.
At the urogynaecological outpatient clinic, patients with urinary incontinence are examined and given advice on care, and their surgical procedures are planned.
At the infertility outpatient clinic, treatments are planned and carried out in cooperation with various infertility clinics. In addition, patients with e.g. endometriosis are monitored on the outpatient clinic.
At the cancer outpatient clinic, treatment and follow-up of gynaecological cancers is provided in accordance with how the specialized medical care is organized and coordinated.
At the procedure outpatient clinic, a wide range of minor procedures are performed under local anaesthesia.
The gynaecological outpatient clinic also contains a sex therapist’s reception.
In addition, the clinic is home to the Seri support centre for victims of sexual assault.
