A school psychologist works in a school as an expert in mental functions and behavior to support the school attendance and well-being of students and pupils. Students can contact the psychologist on their own or together with, for example, a guardian or teacher.

The work of a school psychologist is based on voluntariness, confidence and confidentiality. The school psychologist offers consultation to other student care actors, teachers and guardians on matters related to the well-being, mental health and learning of pupils and students. The school psychologist participates in the development and implementation of community-based student care work together with other actors within student care and education.

The school psychologist offers support to pupils and students, for example with:

  • Mental health issues, such as low mood, anxiety, exhaustion or stress
  • Acute life crises
  • Study and learning challenges
  • Seeking other help

Pupils, students and parents can contact the school social workers directly with a Wilma message or by phone.

The school psychologist services are free of charge.
