A child health clinic psychologist conducts developmental assessments and examinations for children between the ages of 3 and 6 in order to detect the child’s problems as early as possible and in order to arrange the necessary support before they start school. Such problems may be for example:

  • The child has difficulty concentrating or is very active.
  • The child doesn’t seem to learn things like other children of the same age.
  • The behaviour of a child is significantly different compared to other children of the same age.

The client work also includes counselling and guidance for the parents. In addition, the child health clinic psychologist collaborates with others who work with children under school age and their families and participates in the planning of the child’s rehabilitation.

If the parents need support primarily with parenting or in the child’s emotional and behavioural difficulties, we ask parents to contact the family counselling clinic.

In order to be able to go to a child health clinic psychologist, a referral is required for example from a maternity and child health clinic, a doctor or a rehabilitation provider (speech, occupational and physiotherapists).

Child health clinic psychology services are confidential and free of charge.
