Specialist nurses are nurses specialized in the prevention and treatment of certain common diseases. Specialist nurses are, for example, diabetes, heart and asthma nurses.

Soite health centers also have a specialist nurse reception.
The nurses work in cooperation with doctors and participate in treatment planning, implementation, guidance, monitoring and evaluation of treatment. The work is very much independent reception work. The work emphasizes guidance, counseling and prevention as part of patients’ self-care.
Appointment booking
Appointments at the specialist nurse reception are booked either through the health center’s appointment booking system or directly via the nurses’ own appointment booking numbers. When a client books a doctor’s appointment, a healthcare professional may refer the client to a specialist nurse’s office instead of a doctor’s appointment, based on an assessment of the client’s need for treatment.
Information about the service
Clients come to the receptions after having contacted appointment booking.
Nurses give health advice, wound care and vaccinations and remove stitches, etc. If necessary, the nurse can refer the patient to a doctor.
Non-urgent treatment must be provided within a set period. During business hours, patients must be able to contact a health and social services centre immediately by telephone or visiting the centre. Calls are returned without delay, usually on the same day.
The need for treatment may be initially assessed already on the phone but always during the same day. The necessary treatment must be organised within a reasonable time which means within 14 days.
