A coronavirus vaccine tailored to the Omicron virus variant will become available in the Soite area next week
Central Ostrobothnia Joint Municipal Authority for Social and Health Care Services Soite will introduce the Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.1 vaccine tailored to the omicron variant of the coronavirus in week 39. This variant vaccine can be given as doses 3, 4 or 5 of a coronavirus vaccine series.
Soite has received the Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.1 vaccine, which is tailored for the omicron variant of the coronavirus and can be used to boost vaccine protection for people over 12 years old. In the new vaccine, the original Comirnaty (Pfizer/BioNTech) vaccine has been updated to enhance protection especially against the omicron BA.1 virus variant in addition to the original COVID-19 virus. According to the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, variant-tailored vaccines extend immunity compared to previous vaccines that are based on the Wuhan strain (the Institute’s message).
In the Soite area, Pfizer/BioNTech’s variant vaccine will become available at vaccination sites next week, i.e. the week starting with September 26th. The variant vaccine can be taken as doses 3 to 5 of a coronavirus vaccination series. The first and second vaccine dose must be of the original coronavirus vaccine type.
If you have contracted coronavirus disease, the infection counts as one vaccine dose.
We recommend that members of risk groups get a fourth coronavirus vaccine dose
At the moment, a fourth coronavirus vaccine dose is given in the Soite region to members of groups who are at risk of contracting severe coronavirus disease and who are 18 years and older, to everyone over 60 years of age and to others who have the right to receive a fourth vaccine dose. More information on age groups who have a right to vaccinations and vaccination intervals can be found on the Coronavirus vaccinations page.
Please note!
A person who has contracted the coronavirus disease and received three doses of the vaccine does not need a fourth dose of the vaccine, because the infection corresponds to one dose of the vaccine.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd coronavirus vaccine doses are also still given to all age groups according to the recommendations. A fifth vaccination dose is offered to persons over 12 years of age whose immune defence is strongly compromised.
In the Soite region, you can get a coronavirus vaccination by booking an appointment or on a walk-in basis. More information and the schedules for the walk-in days can be found in the coronavirus section of the Soite website: Coronavirus vaccinations
