The key objective of home service for families with children is to strengthen the family’s own resources. This is done by guiding the family in childcare and housekeeping and by strengthening everyday skills.

Home service is provided on the basis of illness, childbirth, injury or another similar functionally debilitating cause or a special family or life situation. The need of home service is planned and defined individually together with the family. Home service is offered as a temporary or a longer-term service.

The home service is at its best an effective form of preventive work.

Grounds for granting home service

  1. The family has children under the age of 18
  2. A parent of a child has a disability or a chronic illness
  3. A parent’s sudden illness or other crisis in the family
  4. A parent’s exhaustion
  5. A difficult situation in life
  6. Sudden life changes
  7. Guidance regarding care of and raising children
  8. Control over and strengthening the family’s everyday routines
  9. Supporting the family’s own ability to function when changes happen
  10. Supporting the interaction between parent and child when changes happen
  11. Supporting and guiding families who are at risk of marginalization
  12. A child’s injury and chronic illness

Home service is not granted in the following cases

  1. For the care of a child who has suddenly fallen ill if the parent has the right to stay at home to care for the child
  2. Only for cleaning
  3. For long-term daily care of a child
  4. Because of remote work, studies or hobbies
  5. When there is need of a personal assistant

If necessary, home service for families with children cooperates with other professionals who support the family. The work is based on confidentiality and good cooperation with the client, employee and other parties who help the client.

First Child Service

First Child Service is offered those who are expecting their first child. It includes three family worker visits that are free of charge: one visit before the baby is born and two visits after the baby is born (within three months after the birth). The purpose of home visits is to give information about the services for families with children and to provide practical guidance in matters related to baby care. You can get more information from the home service for families with children in your own area.
